RASIKA is organised in 5 modules
- Introductory module - a general introduction covering the basic concepts of music and concepts like tonic (Aadhara Sruthi), Note names, Classification of raagams, Janaka and Janya relationship, gamakams etc. A quiz to test your grasp of swarams. Brief description of the Carnatic musical forms
- Melam module - the 72 melakartha scheme of Venkatamakhi explained lucidly. Generate aarohanam and avarohanam of the 72 melams with or without gamakam. Sruthi Bhedham or modal shift of tonic - find out what melam/raagam will be produced by sruthi bhedham on different notes of the 72 melams and selected raagams. An audio quiz for identifying melams. An interactive keyboard transpose chart using which you can quickly find out keys to be played on a keyboard for different scales with different aadhara sruthis.
- Raagam module - 111 raagams handled in detail - their lakshanams explained clearly with emphasis on correct use of gamakams. Audio visuals for Aarohanam-Avarohanam and typical phrases of the Raagam (see Raagam screen sample above) - hints to distinguish from allied raagams -access Gaayaka files directly, which explains with audio distinction between allied raagams. In addition for 80 less common raagams, aarohanam and avarohanam (with audio on keyboard illustration) and names of krithis are available. Choose your own sruthi and instrument. An alphabetical index of over 700 krithis cited as examples in the module can be accessed from the Krithilist menu. There is an audio quiz for recognizing raagams (included in the module) from phrases
- Thaalam module - the rhythm system of Carnatic Music - the parts of a thaalam like Laghu, Dhrutham etc.- terms like jaathi, gathi etc. explained with audio-visuals. Explanation of 'Eduppu' or different methods of fitting the start of a krithi in the thaalam, with audio-visuals. The notation system. Convert your PC into a thaalam generator for singing with and checking your rhythmic accuracy.
- Physics and Music module - the physical basis of sound, music and musical notes. The physical counterparts of Pitch, Loudness and Tonal quality. Concepts like cycle of fifths and fourths - frequencies etc. with suitable audio and sketches.
- Sruthi Box and Thamboora: You can also convert your PC into a sruthi box or thamboora - simply click on the sruthi required and click to start. In the sruthi box adjust individual volumes of sa,pa and Sa or ma for madhyama sruthi - no need to adjust individual notes - a wide range of sruthis from lower octave of 6 kattai to 8.5 kattai. Fine adjustment of sruthi is also possible with sruthi box.
